Tyre recycling: Scientists found that stagnating water in the used tyres is a perfect breeding ground for mosquitos transmitting Dengue and Malaria.

In many developing countries tyres are placed in the landfill alone or together with municipal waste. Used tyres are a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. They will not lay eggs on a dry surface – they need moisture and water to hatch. It only takes 10 to 14 days to develop from egg to blood-sucking adult.

Over 1 million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year. Mosquitoes cause more human suffering than any other organism. Not only mosquitoes can carry diseases that afflict humans, but they also transmit several diseases and parasites that dogs and horses are very susceptible to. In addition, mosquito bites can cause severe skin irritation through an allergic reaction to the mosquito’s saliva – this is what causes the red bump and itching.

Scientists found that even a small quantity of water, as little as 40ml, stagnating in the used tyres can serve as a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes which transmit virus causing Dengue, Malaria,  Yellow Fever, Chikungunya, Dog Heartworm, Encephalitis, West Nile Virus, Zika Virus.

Recycling tyres is one of the easiest ways to keep mosquito populations under control so that diseases like these can’t spread.

Waste2oil is dedicated to providing tyre recycling solutions that will help to reduce tyres going to the landfills but turn them into diesel.
